The correct answer and only answer to this question with the options posed is "B". Although "D" was the unintended result of "B"; however, there are those that can argue that "D" was secondary and the purpose was this aim.

Best of luck!

Thinking Americans like Marshall and Truman realised the depression had contributed directly to the causes of World War 2- they couldn't ignore poverty and a lack of economic development as 'someone else's problem'. The communists were challenging capitalism- if liberal democracy could not make European standards of living better, why bother with it? They would be far more likely to accept communism. France, Italy and Greece were already quite sympathetic to left-wing ideas. Secondly, the US had grown incredibly rich from World War 2- the wealth of the British empire was theirs in war debts to be repayed, while America had suffered no direct damage to its infrastructure and had taken relatively few casualties. A large wad of cash needs to be invested somewhere... and a recovering Europe was better for US multinationals. This is not to deny the altruistic aspects of the Marshall Plan- it was a great moment in American history and today is known by every American schoolkid as evidence of America's benevolence and kindness. But just remember it never would have happened with Reagan as president, or with Paul Wolfowitz in charge of the World Bank.

B and C are right. However to explain better the aim were:
1) Humanitarian sending food for people relief
2) Economical : both stabilizing the western economies, and helping the USA export.
3) Political, Helping newly born democracy and also old ones (Italy, Western Germany, France) to recover from the war and to get stronger, and also to become allied to USA against Comunist expansionism. A good way to export democracy, we could say.

None of the above. It was used to carve up Europe for the victors, and economically ruin Germany for decades.Communism spread as a result of the Marshall Plan. There is some truth to answer A though.

All four of your listed goals. You've hit the proverbial "nail on the head". You don't need anything else; or are you asking which was the more important?

Or come to think of it, I don't think that (a) was a primary purpose of the Marshall Plan. Could be wrong, but don't think so.
