I guess this must be a cultural thing because it seems only in the US is douching a popular pastime. In actual fact, douching can increase the risk of vaginal infections by disrupting the normal flora, secretions and the like in the vagina. Regardless of what the media teach you, the vagina is perfectly capable of cleaning itself and doesn't need any help. So if you are douching regularly, you may find that you are actually worsening the problem, instead of making it better.

Most often, a fishy smell is related to some kind of infection but if they have thoroughly tested you for things including bacterial vaginosis (not an STI) and other problems including UTIs and the like, then it may be worth looking at other things. There is a condition colloquially known as Fish Odor Syndrome (more correctly known as trimethylaminuria) which can produce a fish odor, and if the smell is a real issue, then it is worth being checked out for that.

Do you have any issues with stress incontinence (i.e. leaking a little even just a few drops after coughing, bending, laughing etc)? If so, even a few drops of pee can cause a quite strong ammonia fishy smell after a little while. Similarly, certain soaps can interact and cause rather horrible odors in certain people, so it may be worth being careful what products you use in that area. Other things that could increase sweating and bacterial breakdown and potentially lead to more of an odor are pantyhose (tights), pads and pantyliners that are plastic backed, panties made from synthetic fabric and tight clothing, allergies or sensitivities to laundry products and so on.

However, in reality many people are overly sensitive about their own smells when they are not necessarily noticeable to others. I am not saying that your problem isn't very real but believe me - all vaginas have a scent to them, some more obvious than others.

I know its a horrible subject...I have it only after my period. Douche does not even help. My Dr says it has to do with the end of your period and what comes out. It often lasts me about 3 days. He says there is no concern and not to worry, as I have normal Paps.
For me this just came on all of a sudden several years ago

I recommend getting checked out by a doctor, gynecologist or adolescent medicine physician.

While it is very normal to have vaginal odor, the odor is usually pretty inoffensive and is a natural part of being a woman. You noticed that your period cycle is changing. This can lead to a change in vaginal discharge and smell. The smell may become more noticeable right around menstruation.

if you have been tested, then all I can suggest is that you do not drink enough water. Without adequate intake of water your secretions would thicken and become odorous. The female body needs at least 2 liters of water daily to function at peak efficiency, and if you are an active person, you would require at least 3 liters.

first off, no that is not normal. You may have a positive KOH ( tricamonis), or bacterial vaginosis, or just as simple as you need to drink more water. NEVER douche! It is not good for you. God made you the way you are for a reason. It is not good to flush out the insides. If you need further assistance, see your OB/GYN, not your family phys

No it is NOT normal if you keep it clean. You need to wash it more often. I know that I will get thumbs down but you should douche. You can use 7-up or coke to douche with and then douche again with plain water. U can also use vinegar. That is how women did it back in the 50's.
If none of this works go see your Dr.
