This is a very good question. I personally could only think of two reasons 1 - Justice: The families of the victims want to see the murderer killed. That they are present when the state ends their lives. Suicide is a form of escape and an act of desperation to end the situation. A person can be on death row for a long time. 2 - That suicide in the States is actually a criminal offense. They are commiting a crime and must be stopped and punished (I think this is absurd!) I think answer one is the real reason. Counterpunch (linked) offer an alternative theory i don't agree with. FYI I'm against death penalty, but some people in the UK want it back.

I don't know but this is the best question I have read on here so far!

The idea of spoiling the fun when you are talking about giving the death penalty, is hilarious!

Great question!
I would be so much easier to "House them together" and offer them a Jim Jones cocktail hour. That would really help us in several ways. Damn those do gooders!

But first they need to dig their own grave, I'm not gonna waste time on that one too. Any one on death row longer than 10 years needs to be dead. I'm a native Texan and many of them don't even need to see the inside of those walls in my view.

It is actually against the law to kill yourself. That is why they put them on suicide watch so that they don't help them break the law. Also if they kill themselves then justice has not prevailed.

Because there are stupid laws like this. It would save so much money if they would just do it themselves and they would go to hell for sure for commiting suicide.

Cause they want to make sure they are the ones killing them. They don't want to loose all the 'pleasure'
