My daughter Ashley asked me this question and I had no answer for her. I've heard of wild pigs and horses but I've never heard of wild cows. Where did they originate from. I've asked many people and no one seems to know.

According to a couple of different websites (I just googled "dometication cattle"), cattle were probably domesticated independently three different times from wild bovines. The three events occurred in the Fertile Crescent, in India/Pakistan, and in Africa. The ancestral species were probably the aurochs and the zebu. I'm not finding the ancestral African cattle...

You should ask your daughter if she is a cow. When she says no, tell her that the boy is obviously telling a lie and to ignore him (or she could tell him maybe he should get his eyes checked) since he has no idea what he is talking about. Words are words. Ignoring the behavior will make it stop. I am so sick of people crying BULLY for every little thing kids say to each other. Kids will be kids, and I hope to teach my daughter to ignore silly comments from other kids. ETA- REALLY people?? I just read all the other answers and I seriously wonder how some of you deal with every day life. A 5 year old calling someone a name is not "verbal abuse". OMG. What a bunch of sissies in this country. Stop expecting others to solve all your kids' problems. Teach them to have a high self-esteem and those remarks will roll right off their back. You coming to school to speak to the teacher will actually lower your kid's self-esteem. Remember the saying "Sticks and stone can break my bones but words will never hurt me"? Sheesh.

The common ancestor of domestic cattle is thought to be Bos primigenius (the auroch). The last wild auroch was killed in Poland in the 17th century. As another answerer suggested, cattle are thought to have been domesticated several times independently in different locations. However, the species used to found the domestic population is believed to be the same in all cases.
