Will employers accept a degree from an online college, such as University of Pheonix?

The issue isn't whether the degree was completed online or in-the-seat; it's the reputation of the college that awarded the degree.

UoP is regionally accredited and for jobs that only care whether you have a degree or not, it will usually be acceptable. For jobs that care a little more about the quality of your education, UoP is probably near the bottom of the list as far as reputation goes and it doesn't matter whether it was online or on one of their campuses.

There are better options out there for you if you want to study and earn your degree online. One study tells us that 85% of public universities are teaching online now.

For less money than you'd spend on a degree from UoP, you can earn your degree online at the likes of University of Massachusetts, University of Florida, California State U, Florida State U, and the like. You can take classes at places like Harvard, UC Berkeley, Johns Hopkins...

Your real goal should be more than a degree, it should be a quality education as well. You will get a quality education from a quality college.

Take a look at UMass online http://www.umassonline.net/Home.html for an example of what you can get online now. And this is just one example. Don't forget to look and see if the State U where you live is among those offering their degrees online.

I have been wondering the same thing lately. I have been enrolled at Ashford University out of Iowa for over a year now working on my Bachelor's. I suppose for some things a traditional school would look better, but if it's a program that can effectively be completed online, it really shouldn't matter. What matters is that you have shown you have the drive and dedication to further your education and have completed necessary courses. Look into Ashford, I found their programs to be better than a lot of others as far as time, tuition, and the like.

I bet your local community college will offer online courses for cheaper than University of phoenix. Mine does, and you also have to remember that you may have to take proctored tests at a testing site that may not be near your home. So make sure you check that out. And You may not be able to take evey course you need for their online degree. I would check your area for online courses. I take them.
