DO NOT try to force the top off with a screwdriver/pry bar. The top of this machine is held in place with screws.

Go to Sears (www.sears.com), select appliances, then parts. Enter your model number. This will bring you a menu to select what area you are interested in. If you select "Top & cabinet" then click on the "show diagram" you will see that the top is held in place with two screws (Part #23 in the diagram).

As for the switch, it is #11 on the diagram, and is available online. Part number: 3949238, $ 24.99 + S&H. If your switch needs replaced, I would suggest getting the part locally at Sears. My expereince with the online store is they charge more than most for shipping, and the online store is slow compared to most on-line reatil businesses (nearly two weeks for my order); since then I use the local Sears even though I don't like the drive to get there.

As to your question: To by-pass the switch, you need to determine if the switch is open when on (no electricity passes when the lid is closed), or closed when on (electricity passes whtn the lid is closed). If open when on, cut the wire. If closed when on, connect the two wires together.

Open up the top of the machine (not the lid). You can use a big screw driver or a breaker bar and put in the seam in the front of the machine and pop it. Then you will see the switch where the lid is under the top. Remove the wire connector and jump it across with another wire. It is a safety feature during the spin cycle so you don't get your arms caught. Not a good idea to tamper with safety devices.

Your answers are very vague. the guy asked a simple question. Please just answer it specifically. We don t want to know your theories or your fear of bypassing a simple lid switch and etc. Just tell him how to do it and then shut up. we come on here trying to learn how to do something. Not what you think is a bad idea. if you have never bypassed a lid switch then please let someone else answer who has.

Find the wire that goes to the switch. Splice the wires together and the machine will think the lid is shut all the time. If you only find one wire ground it. And again two wires connect together.

I did the same thing on my washer. Just connect the wires and you'll have to find a place to mount the wire after.
