Call your boss from your cell phone and say your arm is stuck in a blood pressure machine.
This was a legitimate excuse I had:
Call during your lunch break and say your neighbor called from vacation; they have a lot of dogs & apparently the dog sitter went to take them for their walk, and one of them had died on the couch. The dog-sitter is an older lady and cannot lift the dog, and they've asked if I would be able to bury their dog. Since there is nobody else who can do it, and they're afraid to leave the dead dog with the other dogs, I was wondering if I may be excused to help my neighbor?

I don't know what you do, other than dodge bullets of crazed deer hunters. . . . hey, I think I may be onto something here. that is such a man thing to want to clean out your garage. Sad, very sad! I could think of others things to do than that.

hey, it's none of their damn business what kind of paperwork it is, right? could be a will, an inheritance, anything........
