The Republican spouses seem to just quietly sit back and support their husbands.

It's because Democrats know they can't get elected based on their left wing ideology. Their only hope is if they appeal to you personally and you will vote for them because you like them. If you don't like them then maybe you will like their spouse enough to vote for them.
Hillary and Bill are the best example of this. Look at their "infomercials" on the Internet. They ask you to vote for some song or try to show you what a really cool couple they are. They are trying to appeal to you as people. They don't talk about their ridiculous positions on important issues. They don't talk about open borders or their defeatist attitude on the war, or higher taxes. This won't get them votes.
Bill was elected in large part because of his charm. Hillary has no charm so she has to rely on her husband for his.

I think it's pretty obvious why Bill Clinton gets the limelight. Elizabeth Edwards is a tremendous and classy person, she's the best thing John has going for him. It would be hard for Republican spouses to be in the limelight, there are so many of them, Fred's got two, Rudy three, McCain two, that's a lot of spouses.

I think they are just trying to cater to the female vote. Women do tend to vote democrat. It is that "Someone has to take care of me! I'm a woman." attitude. By putting the women out front they both promise to take care of them while putting up some false sense of achievement.
Plus, Republican women are more apt to have a job or at least an important one.

Because the Republican spouses know that their spouses can speak for themselves. And they know that the real issues and where their spounses stand on them are what is most important, rather than the Democrat spouses who just muddy the waters with non-issues, in my opinon.

Wow Republicans are really grasping at straws to find any way possible (excepts political views) to stay a float.. It's actually pretty funny to hear some of the statements coming out of the republicans mouths in attempt to keep their heads above water...
Hmmmmmm was it a Democrat who brought their 90 year old MOTHER on National TV to express her support of her son? That was a pretty lame move if you ask me.

Is there something wrong with spouses saying their point of view? Like it or not a person's spouse is their biggest adviser, I personally like to know what spouses think.

Because Republicans are chauvinistic and believe a woman's place is in the home. And Wiz is correct. They are Stepford Wives. Democrat politician's recognize that women have freedom of speech, too.

Because the Democrats were raised to stand up for their beliefs and be opinionated while the Republicans were being trained how to sit and look proper...
I agree with the Stepford Wives comment.

I don't know. Maybe Republicans being conservative and all are more likely to marry a 50s-style stays-in-the-kitchen type wife?

By the way, I don't recall Nancy Reagan being that much of a wallflower.

Republican spouseS do sit back quietly
AND PRETEND TO BELIEVE WHAT THEIR HUSBANDS PREACH TO THEM
when they go into the voting booth for the 08 elections

they will suddenly forget all that crap about Sadamm causing 9-11(DIDN'T)
and how prudent the GOP was with our money (NOT)

THEY WILL VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRATS
