Considering that this is the only planet we have, it is vitally important that we do everything we can, as the stewards of Earth, as an intelligent race at the top of the food chain to keep this planet as clean as we can.
When the interest of profit and power supercedes that of doing the right thing we get those that love profit and power over their own country.
Whether Global Warming is real or not, there is no denying that the Earth is changing, from us? natural cycles? Does it matter? It's happening!
We as a people of Earth need to get over our petty differences and stop those that take every petty issue as an excuse to hate. This includes some from every country of the world, especially here in America.
I'm not one that blames Bush/Cheney for environmental disasters that go uncleaned but when a 'leader' allows a SuperFund (which forces oil/energy compainies to clean up their messes) to go bankrupt (which forces "we the people" to pay to clean up the mess made by others with taxes)
The EPA was created under a Republican prez (Nixon) so it proves that although in the end Nixon screwed the pooch he proved that Republicans can do the right thing when they want to!
We need to get 'special interests' out of the government! We need to keep those that once worked as a lobbyist for oil/lumber/energy/mining from working within the same government that is supposed to be protecting the environment (i.e, US!)
FYI: Every single government post that has anything to do with the environment under the Bush administration was a lawyer or lobbyist for oil/energy/lumber/mining before signing on..... its like asking the fox to guard the opened hen house and having only faith that the fox promises it won't eat the hens!
America has less than 6% of the worlds population, yet creates 28% of the worlds polution. Are we so addicted to oil as Bush claimed two years ago? Or are the world leaders so scared of change that solar power or hydrogen fuel will be limited to those few that can afford it?
This is the only planet we have! If in the end we mess it up.....
Where ya gonna go?

I guess people seem to be calling me a liberal so, I'll give my 2 cents. There is more money to be made in efficient use of resources than there is in unsustainable consumption of resources. Think of all the infrastructure you could build around just the recycling industry: plastics specialists, machinists, health regulation, engineering, computer specialists, drivers, etc. Now contrast that with the idea of just putting all that stuff in a landfill. You need drivers and some office to oversee that facility (and the other landfills so, it's not unique). Much less job demand for the landfill. Now you might ask, "where does the money come from to pay for the labor force at a recycling center?" Pretty simple model actually. Anyone who makes an easily recyclable product gets a tax break. Anyone who doesn't gets taxed the difference. This gives incentive to clean up and still manages to pay for it. You can make a scale of product recylability to match with the tax you'd pay. Everything in this model already exists except for the tax on non-recyclable goods. I really don't know why we throw anything away--it's gross and terribly inefficient.

We all are affected by the environment. We all want to breathe clean air and drink clean water. Plants and animals are dying off due to man made pollution. Of course the natural selection process comes into play too. Man's encroachment into the habitat of other species severly impacts those other species to the point of extinction. Liberals appreciate the rich diversity of plants and animals that this planet has and does contain. Unfortunately if we do not act as responsible stewards of those plants and animals they will perish and so will we along with them.

Its quite undemanding fairly. The conservatives have self assurance that the loose industry and capitalism would be certain the fee of protecting our environment. they want much less regulation and much less governmental involvement. The liberals have self assurance that environmental protection would desire to be a function of the government or our environment's materials would be completely ruined. The desire a much bigger place for the government in regulating our environment. Its enormous government vs small government.

I'm a liberal.
My perspective is that we need to protect the environment. Littering is absolutely unacceptable. No excuses. We need to think of others besides ourselves. It is something that everyone is responsible for in some way.

I'm a lib and I believe the majority of scientists (my husband is an environmental engineer). The bottom line is, this is the only planet we have. Whether you agree in global warming or not, what does it hurt to clean up after ourselves and make the world a better place for our kids and grandkids? It's called accepting responsibility for our future. Even if the scientists were wrong, it can't hurt to conserve and clean up after ourselves.

We have a responsibility to live in balance with nature instead of against it. That doesn't mean give up your cars and move to the woods... it means use what sets us apart from other animals on this planet.. our intellect and technology... to lessen/eliminate our footprint in this world.

This is a tough to answer question, as there is no one "liberal perspective" -- I would say liberals in general favor conservation.
