Pretty soon I'm guessing. I live in California and just paid $3.59 a gallon.

The problem with oil is, that there hasn't been any major find of light crude since 1979. All the heavy, dirty oil found since then, cost enormous money to convert and in some instances is not even worth the trouble. Oils supply will last for another 100 years at the current level, but we need more and more. China has the money and pays top Dollar for it. Oil will soon reach $250 a barrel and before 2010, gas will be $7.

$4.00 is still too cheap.
The same people who are complaining about the price of gas at $4.00 are perfectly willing to fork over $5.00 for a paper cup of Starbucks coffee with foamy milk in it.
Gas should be at $8.00 a gallon and maybe people will start being more responsible with it and or talk seriously about the alternatives that are sitting right under their noses.

Wow, health care for $9 gas. What a bargain. Not.
In answer to your question, I don't know. What do you suggest we do about it? Invade and take control of all oil producing nations? As long as we pay what they're asking, they can ask what ever they want. The solution is, perhaps, to use our own oil. The U.S. has billions of gallons under it's own soil that we chose not to use for various reasons...environmentalist fears and tactical reasons. When the rest of the world runs out, we'll still have ours. OR, if our supply is cut off through war, we'll still have ours. Sort of like a well in a castle under siege.

Stick another zero on that and the question becomes interesting.
As long as the demand for oil increases in the world, the price will continue to climb. The traders will have to continue bidding up their prices to ensure we get some, rather then most of it heading to the pacific rim.

Where are they selling it that cheap? Come over to the UK and you can have some at $8 - $9 a gallon.
Mind you we do get cars that do around 120 miles a gallon. The average car does about 50MPGs compared to 20MPG in the USA.
