I guess you're asking where you can see some odd and freaky sights.
Catch a cab to the Castro district. It is the center of the Gay community. Mostly you just see people going about their lives, but every now and then...
Walk down Market Street. I suggest you do this in broad daylight. You will see almost everything on Market Street. A lot of the businesses on Market are closed down, but they have some very interesting "toy" stores and theaters which feature "unique" entertainment.
On O'Farrell St. is the Mitchell Brothers Theater which is interesting since it is no longer owned by the Mitchell Bros. One is doing life for murdering the other one. Anyway, it is SF's classiest porn theater.
Some of the markets in Chinatown are interesting, but most of the shops are tourist traps and the worst Chinese food I've ever eaten was in Chinatown.
That time of year if you go to Union Square, which is really close to Powell Street and Market, you can see all the Christmas shops and shoppers at the really upscale stores.
Take the cable car from Powell and Market all the way to Fisherman's Wharf. Depending on the weather, you will see tourists and street performers doing what they do.
At Sixth and Howard streets is a condemned hotel with all sorts of furniture and plumbing fixtures glued to the outside walls. In that neighborhood, you want to look at it from a car window.
Bring your umbrellas. I hope it's raining.

If you have time to travel to the South Bay, the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose is definitely odd and offers some great local history.

exploratorium. you can find it at the palace of fine arts, which is basically a pond that people like to feed birds and swans at. but the exploratorium has the weirdest, kitchiest kind of science displays there. no kid growing up in sf has not taken a field trip there, it's THAT awesome
