Give me someone who is like 300 lbs or more, who doesn't overeat (even just a little)! I don't really buy that, I can be honest, I'm 5'0 and over 200 lbs, I'm fat because I really overeat like crazy and I know that, I do blame a lot of my recent huge gain on stress. Due to the stress I overeat and become more stressed.

I'm pointing out that these morbidly obese people probably do eat large portions without realizing it, because there's skinny or medium sized people who overeat and they don't neccessarily know portion size.

So why would a really overweight person know or practice portion control?

Yes, thyroid problems and genetics do play a part but if you look at how most of those people eat, you could tell they could do better.

Hi gurly -

I'm sure there are exceptions to the rule, but generally, I think you are correct. Most people who are overweight are not well versed in making good food choices nor do they understand what an actual portion should be.

Though I suffer from hypothyroidism, yes, the one that slows metabolism, I have managed to remain slim at 122lbs by restricting my diet and getting exercise for 30 minutes, 5 times a week. It can be done, but discipline is key.

I don't expect that everyone would have the same results, mind you, but most people would be surprised at how small changes add up over time. A friend of mine stopped drinking juices and sodas and replaced it with water. She dropped 15lbs in twelve months.

There is absolutely no such thing as obesity being caused by disease. No thyroid or any other hormonal problem causes obesity. This is a myth and has been debunked thousands of times.
If you eat more calories than you burn, you gain weight. If you eat less than you burn, you lose weight. I don't care if you have every hormone problem known to science, you are not going to get fat if you eat properly.
