A friend of mine bought me a flute. In two weeks I will be going to visit this friend. I want to surprise them by playing something meaningful yet, easy on this beautiful instrument. They are from the South: any ideas?

Never played a flute in my life. I can all ready play parts of songs like:
Amazing Grace
When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again
but, I have to sort of stay in one range. I can play most instruments by ear...
Great suggestions so far...

Do you know anyone proficient in the instrument or a music teacher who could give you some pointers? If not, try Internet searches for pointers. You might find some free advice. My son is a music teacher, but I think the geographic distance would be the problem! I think playing an instrument is like giving of yourself. I took piano lessons at a young age. I wonder how much of what I learned would come back to me? Good luck.

Can you play the flute? If yes, maybe something soft and sweet from Kenny G. or a Christmas hyem. If you can't play the flute but want to impress your friends, play "Mary had a Little Lamb" (LOL) that's what I use to play :-)

My daughter has been playing flute for years so when she gets home tonight, I will ask her for help with your question and email you an answer.

What a wonderful gift that would be for your friends.
