NP programs are usually at the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) level and are part of the MSN degree. There are a number of specialties at this level including family, mental health, mobile intensive care, and anesthesiology among others.

The Nurse Anesthetist is probably the highest paid of the group. The Family NP is probably the most common.

It takes about 18 months to 2 years and the salaries can be very very high depending on where you decide to work.

Here's an example program for an FNP http://www.musc.edu/nursing/academics/masters/fnp.htm
