What role are you auditioning for?

If it's Ti Moune (who is a soprano with a belt by the way), I would suggest:

The Light In The Piazza - The Light In The Piazza
A New Life - Jekyll & Hyde
Green Finch and Linnet Bird - Sweeney Todd

Those are just to start, but it's best to choose something you are familiar with that will also show similar character traits as what you're auditioning for.

good luck,
Marianne

Ti Moune, Mama Euralie, and Asaka all require belting, so pick a song that shows off your belt. But given the style of singing, you don't want something that's TOO Broadway. A bit of pop of jazz influence would help. That being said, some of the following songs are quite Broadway-esque so choose what you think is best::

My top recommendation is either "The Spark of Creation," "Ain't it Good?" or "Stranger to the Rain," all from Children of Eden by Stephen Schwartz. They are both relatively unknown and the style is VERY similar to that of OOTI. They'll show off both belting and head voice, depending on what part of the song you choose.

Spark of Creation would be good for Mama Euralie or Erzulie.
Ain't it Good? would be good for Asaka.
Stranger to the Rain would be good for Ti Moune or Andrea.

Other recommendations:
"Cornet Man" from Funny Girl
"Don't Rain on My Parade," also from Funny Girl (a little over done)
"Gorgeous" from The Apple Tree
"Every Story is a Love Story" from Aida
"Maybe This Time" from Cabaret
"I Enjoy Being a Girl" from Flower Drum Song (good for Ti Moune)
"Always True To You Darling" from Kiss Me, Kate
"As Long as He Needs Me" from Oliver!
"All the Wasted Time" from Parade (only Lucille's part)
"Young and Healthy" from 42nd st.

That being said, I strongly recommend looking at songs from Children of Eden!

Try something from Secrete Garden or The Wiz, I would suggest the scarecrow's song, Ease on down the road ...you want something upbeat!
