You do not pay to get an agent. They get a percentage of your pay once you sign with them and they help find you the auditions that lead you to jobs. If you pay a fee other than that then you got scammed. What will cost you are classes, headshots, resumes copies at the copy shop (plus cutting fees so they fit the back of your 8x10's), gas for driving to auditions & classes, and all those costs depends on too many different factors for anyone to give you an estimate.

In all honesty you do not sounds ready for an agent. You hae to get training and build a resume before you attempt that or you will get your headshot, resume and cover letter tossed in the trash.

Do the work that is required first, then do your agent mailings. You don't say where you live so we can't tel you where to find legit agents or auditions. Asking about US dollars makes me thing maybe you don't live in the US but are thinking of coming here? You can try the following sites:

You don't pay for an agent's services in advance, you pay for an agents services when they have done their job. If an "Agent" tells you that they have a "sign up fee" or a "Registration Fee" run like hell... that isn't an agent... that is a SCAM Artist, and there are lots of them around.

An agent's job is to help find you work, and to represent you in contract negotiations. The agent gets paid a percentage of what you make. Usually that is 10% of your earnings, and that 10% is most often built into what you are paid. If for example you sign a contract that indicates you will be paid $1400 (+10%) that indicates that the producer will be writing you a check for $1400 and will send a second check for $140 to your agent. If the contract only says $1400, then your agent's share ($140) will come out of your check. Quite often the producer sends the check to your agent, who in turn sends the check to you. Sometimes the producer sends the entire check to you... and it is your responsibility to send your agent his or her share of your earnings.

It doesn't cost anything to get an agent... an agent gets paid for finding you work. An agent isn't going to want to represent you, unless that agent believes that you have something to offer. You'll need to meet with an agent, and "Audition" for them... if they believe in you, and they believe that they can find work for you, they'll probably take you on as a client. You need to be able to show them that you are a professional... you know what you are doing, and that as a team the two of you can get along and market your services. They will also want to see that you have been marketing yourself, and that you know what you have to offer.

So, how is that agent going to know whether or not you've got something to offer? They are going to watch how you present yourself in that first meeting... they are going to look at your resume, to see what experience you have... (What Films, Plays, Commercials you've acted in... what training you have.... who you have studied with... what training you are enrolled in right now) they are going to look at your headshot, to see how you present yourself in front of the camera... they might want to see you perform a monologue or two for them... or they'll give you a part of a script to read for them... then they'll give you a little direction, and see how you take it. If you impress them, they'll probably take you on...
