I know someone who used the drug and got alienated from her family, but is getting back on track. My mother claims it is still a big problem even in our neighborhood these days. So what is being done about it? Did the government and police give up and leave it to the social workers to address, or what?

I watched a documentory on the History channel a few months ago about gang culture and drugs. There they said that SA is one of the countries to which the "33" gang has spread and also the spread of crystal meth known as "tik" in SA. It is cheap and easy to make if you know the recipe. In America it has become the choice of drug for school children in the Bible belt because it is so easy to produce. So far it is more related and prevalent in the gangland areas of SA I understand, but it is predicted to have a massive growth in SA if unchecked.

Well the cops arrested the Mayor of Cape Town.
She must be a really important person in the tik trade right?

the old regulars will know that i was an addict.

tik (speed) was still relatively unknown at that stage, but i had the opportunity to try it.

look, i lost everything because of cat, but i would have been dead long time if i had carried on with tik.

the problem is that it is easy to make. i mean VERY easy. diet pills, and chemicals from pick and pay, a few hours and there you go.

dangerous and extremely addictive.

the police are trying, but these labs are nearly impossible to shut down.

I don't know, but I hope they do something fast. I heard people who are addicted to tik, their brains don't look to good. I heard some actually have holes in their brains if they use it too long. Just imagine how many people will become psychos because of that, they'll just add to the crime rate.

The only shocking thing I find in that is that the South African Police cared enough to arrest her, marijuana possession in South Africa is not a big deal, the Police are very lenient. It is not shocking that Paris was arrested though, what do you expect from her?

You might get more answers by reffering to the drug as 'meth' and not TIK
