Should we care about saving the earth so that we may live better lives (ie with less pollution) or do we actually care about what's happening to the earth, our home?
What's your point of view?

I'm talking about Deep ecologists and shallow ecologists, by this, I mean those who genuinly want to help the earth to recuperate after our destruction and those who wish to clear up their acts because it will benefit themselves.

Inculcate a greater sense of gratitude for the causes that sustain us and nurture us.

Most of the environment activists think they can really make a different in the short term, but they are wrong. The pollution problem is worsening, and there is little that we can do to stop this decline right now. All our rallies and passing laws won't help us much in the short term. Although the future generations will probably cope with the higher pollution levels (man is so fascinatingly adaptable), our efforts to protect nature will go a long way towards ensuring that the situation doesn't get so worse that the whole human race faces extinction (instead of only a large portion). The people actually thinking about our future (like, really thinking, instead of imagining a lush green utopia that'll never happen) are few and far between. Though I'd say many do care about our future (the answer to your question), but most are more interested in breathing some air that doesn't smell so rank with acid, and they think the wrong way anyway.

I don't think anyone else can say what any individual should care about! You can't force people to care about something if they have no passion and don't care about it!

I think people will change their behaviour if "taught" facts and shown another way. But lets face it, no one is going to spend four times as much on organic food. No one wants twice the hassle for the same thing. No one want to pay three times as much for "eco" fuel etc. Its not that people don't care, its about costs.

America is the WORST pollutant and they should be forced to DO more. They all drive round in cars the size of trucks guzzling gas, polluting the environment etc. They all have air conditioning etc. I think a lot of business should be made to clean up. Individuals can do their bit, but its the bigger guys who should do more.

Nobody truly knows how, or when, this wonderful world of ours was created. For generations however, the most ( supposedly ) intelligent lifeform ( us ) have strived to destroy it! Every living form amongst us had no say, about our position on earth. This does not give us any superior right to destruct this planet. The future rests with todays younger generation, may i wish them all well!

I think everybody is different. We all do what we can do. I think basically, it comes down to the day to day things for most of us. Some of us are on a small scale such as recycling, using non aerosols, natural cleaning products,,,etc. Others educate and practice on a much larger scale. Every bit helps. As long as somebody does something, something gets done.
