All have committed sin one way or the other. Confession is a funny practice in Christianity. You are forgiven of the sins you committed in exchange mostly for some coins. This was an issue during the Reformation period.

You realise your grave sins and repent about it with a resolve not to commit the same again. This act is enough. You cannot live in this world without committing some sins of the unharmful variety.

It is difficult for me to believe that priests who hear confessions and live on enforced celibracy are free from violating sexually related sins.

Personally I don't see how confessing to a human will expunge a sin in the same way confessing to God (as you understand the concept--I might as well add this codicil, as I'm agnostic). However, as a mechanism to instill transparency in your Earthly doings, it can be useful. One who freely admits to his fellow man his wrongdoings is more likely to turn from them than the one who hides them and then loudly proclaims he is innocent. It is a good mechanism for keeping people honest if the confession is public. The Catholics keep it private, possibly because they know others will judge, no matter the admonition against it. But there is value to confession--I just don't think it is the value that some believe it is. Psychologically, it is helpful though.

There is no such thing as sin. If you have done something that you consider to be sinful, then take what you have learnt from that experience, apply it to your life, and you will see that it helps you grow and evolve as a person. You do not need to "confess," nor do you need to keep it a secret, you do not need to feel guilt, nor do you need to feel innocence. You do not need to even acknowledge your so-called sin if you don't feel it is the right thing to do. All you need to do is to do what you feel is right, and in the end the experience will shape the person who you are. And only you know who you are and who you want to be.

Everything that happens in life, whether we consider it joyful or sinful, happens for a purpose, and happens on the basis of one thing and one thing only - Love. There is nothing else but love.

You have to have a witness....You have to confess your sin if front of man(witness) and ask to be forgiven your sin and believe that Jesus died on that cross and was resurrected for the penalty of our sin...God Bless You

Acknowledge Christ before men

If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9.

Jesus Christ has removed every barrier that stood between you and God except one -- you must receive the pardon He purchased for you by an act of your will. You see, a pardon is not a pardon until it is received. There is a pardon with your name on it in heaven, but you must receive it to make it valid.

It is not a matter of how good you are -- or even how bad you are. The issue is, will you talk to God and tell him you receive the pardon he purchased for you. He wants you to come just as you are and confess that you can never be good enough for Him to accept.

YOU can change your eternal destiny right now. Wherever you are, just bow your head and tell God you receive His pardon for your sins. Ask Jesus Christ to come into your life and begin to give you a new heart with new desires. He will come into your life and bring a new power and motivation for living you never dreamed possible.

Jesus gave us this invitation, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20) The door represents your will.

"Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed." - James 5:16

You don't have to be a Catholic to appreciate the value of confession to another person. Many protestants even now have what they call "accountability partners" - it is easy for Satan to trap you into a secret sin, when all you have to do is confess it to God in the privacy of your own home.

But when you have to start confessing weekly to a Christian brother or sister....

you are right, sinful man can not handle sins only Jesus Christ can do this. This act of hearing sins goes against bible doctrine, never in the bible it tells you that a man can mediate sins.

You don't! Catholicisms is a man made religion. If nobody went to see the priests in church who would support the Vatican? If you believe in God and think he wouldn't make a wrong decision, then by that theory we should all be Jewish! Because Jesus was Jewish, God wouldn't put his son in the wrong religion would he? Anyway, all religions are man made.Speak from your heart.

I cannot find a single reference in the Bible where we are told to do that. We are to confess to the Lord through Jesus Christ and we will be forgiven immediately.
