Yes, definitely. The best journalism stories come from listening and observation. Something shy and quiet can do quite well, from my experience.

Do not confuse being a journalist with investigative journalism, paparrazzi or the like. Sitting in on press conferences, city council meetings and the occasional one-on-one interview for a few questions is not unobtainable by the shy.

They could become an editor.
To be a reporter, you must be outgoing and personable. Because meeting people and gathering information from them is half the job, perhaps more than half.

well, i'm a journalism student..and i admit that i was quite shy and timid kind of person,before...i think if you really want to be a journalist, it doesn't depend on whether you're talkative and outspoken or not..what's important is that you have the passion for writing and you have the guts..one more thing, don't you know that quite people are the sensible ones and that they tend to write concisely, well concise writing is essential in journalism...don't worry about being shy, coz it will diminish eventually...i can prove that!

Yes, if they can overcome their shyness. Which is possible. Its just a question of practice and not letting your shyness be a handicap. You will have to fake it for a while, but you will get used to it.
