Yes it is correct. There is no reason why the meaning should be something which needs the past tense. You might explain why you weren't going to show someone a present you'd bought for them using these words.

Needs a capital I and a period, but otherwise yes.

"I want it to be a surprise for you" is probably how I would say it though.
