if i purchased a ps3 from America, would it play properly on a PAL T.V here in Australia? i know the games are region free, but i want to know whether i can purchase a ps3 console (60gb most likely) and play it in Australia withou encountering problems

yes but i would not buy games from australia because the games will be in australian more than likely, and they may involve a chip for there games to work

I have NTSC 60GB in Europe. The only thing I had to buy is a good heavyweight bulky power converter 220V->100V 50Hz->60Hz 500W. I can't play PAL PS1/2 games and movies, though.

that should absolutely matter on the DVD in question. even though if that's a area loose DVD, then of direction it is going to. If this is area locked to area a million, then regrettably, no. Austrialia makes use of area 4 for DVD's, and the PS3 honours the DVD area lock.
