Most people only punch with their arms/upper bodies. One of the first things you need to do is draw power from the ground up and punch with your entire body. Get on the balls of your feet. When you initiate the strike let your lead foot glide forward slightly and draw power up from your legs into your hips (which should rotate into the strike), keep your abs tight and your stomach tucked in to transfer the power to the upper body, snap the loose fist straight out and at the instant just before impact you plant about 85% of your weight on the lead foot and tighten the fist for the strike while letting the knees bend slightly. This is also known as a "drop step" and when done correctly will make every strike devestating.
Practice putting this all together yourself. It will take a while to get it right but you'll definitely see your speed and power increase. Also find a good boxing trainer who produces knock-out artists. Too many trainers teach guys how to "get points" with quick strikes that lack power. You don't want that.
NOTE 1: Work on these techniques in front of a full length mirror first before wailing on a heavybag. The immediate feedback will up your learning curve. Typically, when it looks good, it is good.
NOTE 2: Most knock-outs come from good combinations of punches so teach yourself or find someone who can show you. Just swinging hard isn't enough against someone with good defense and/or is a good counterstriker.
Keep your chin down, your hands & shoulders up and train hard!!

Good for you.. you have a punching bag. I have one before, but its a coconut tree covered with thin rubbers.. power in punching is not only acquired in just simply punching and punching, you must also work out your muscles in biceps and triceps to help it more strengthen, and make sure you have the proper punching stunts. if you can already see your wrist getting big. I guess try punching a guy in the street to see if your punching power got stronger.

best go find a boxing club or a "full contact" karate dojo. Learning how to punch on the WWW is like tasting a cake through a glass window- no substance. Once you know the basics you can train on the punch bag.

The power of your punch comes from your legs. You must use your legs, hips and waist to transfer your weight into your punch. Step into your punches and twist at the waist to accelerate your punch. Bruce Lee made it very simple:
With flexability comes speed, with speed comes power. The faster you can hit, the more power you'll punch with.
P.S.: Do lots of push ups to build strength in your shoulders and triceps.

Yeah!! Listen to Chad!! Go out and commit an assault on some innocent bystander, minding their own business. You'll either be tossed in jail where you can continue punching people until someone shivs you to death, or you'll get your a** kicked by the guy you attack in the first place. Of course, you could jump some one from behind like a snivelling coward, right CHAD??
