I stopped using Whiskas as its junk food for cats. Iams because of its PETA blacklisted status. Started using Nature's Best which had a dramatic change in behaviour with the sulky one (George) and less/no fur shedding with both George and Snaffle. However George has started throwing up perfectly digested cat food! He's healthy otherwise. Would appreciate tips.

For me it's just about quality. I won't buy anything from the grocery store, I will never buy any special "prescription" foods from a vet, and I'll never buy inferior foods that might be sold anywhere.

Some of the best kinds are: Natura Innova EVO, Wellness, Felidae, Eagle Pack Holistic Select, Holistic Blend, Orijen, Petcurean Go! Natural, Petcurean Foundations, Petcurean Summit, Natura California Natural, Natura Innova, by Nature, Nutram. Check out their websites to see if they are available at a store near you. Avoid foods with by-products and chemical preservatives. High meat content is great too, low grains or grain-free. Canned is best, but if your cat doesn't like canned that much or you can't afford an all canned diet, feed a bit of canned and add water to it a couple times per day, put it in the fridge after 30 min though so it doesn't go bad. A can should last a few days to a week. Then leave dry food out all day.

I stopped using Iams because of their cruel laboratory experiments on animals. It's dreadful that an organisation like Iams can parade as caring for animals when behind the scenes they are really involved in such horrendous animal abuse.

Usually my cats love their food but occasionally one or both of them won't eat their food or is sick after eating it. I wonder if the box was stored in the wrong conditions before I bought it, and has gone off. When I buy a new box of the same food, they're fine again.

I think if it's from the same box/packet, I'd throw it away and buy a new box. If it's happening with different boxes, I'd try changing the flavour, and if it still happens, you probably need to buy different food. You could also try giving them a some tinned tuna in spring water (no salt), or a tin of skinned and boneless salmon, which I'm sure they'll love! Good Luck.

I won't buy any cat food that uses claims about human health to sell cat food. Humans are omnivores, cats are carnivores

I won't buy Iams, Science Diet or Eukanuba because they can't make a kitten food that starving kittens would eat.

I won't buy any food that doesn't list a meat source as the first ingredient. again cats are carnivores.

For a good source of info for cat nutrition, check out the link. It is a site run by a vet

Did you slowly introduce the cat food or did you just switch. A slow transition to the new food will probably be easier on you cats stomach. Make sure you read the label to ensure you are giving your cats proper nutrition because this can also be the source of an upset stomache. Good Luck ;)

FYI- Science Diet and Eukanuba are made by the Iams company. Natures Balance is good cat food. Have you tried elevating the food bowls so that they are not bending over with their head down while eating. You may need to go to the vet with him and he may need a special GI diet food. Good Luck.

Does George have hairballs?
Yes, I do avoid the regular store cat foods. I go to a local pet store, and buy Royal Cannin for cats. They have different selections, based on if indoor or outdoor cat, siamese, skin care, hairball control, etc.
I have a friend who feeds her cats science diet.
The healthier the food, the better. It is not so full of "fillers" and therefore fills them up better, and keeps them healthier.
Take care.

I avoid all dry foods as one of my cats got diabetes from eating it. I stick with canned foods that have a muscle meat as a first ingrediant and little or no grains as cats are carnivores
