Wishing to finish 10 years Navy enlisted service and cross to USAF OCS with a Nuclear Engineering Technology degree. Wish to know if this is feasible and if my retirement years will be affected?

Well first off, nuclear engineering technology, sounds like a associates degree, not a four year university BS.

If it is a four year degree, you can always apply for AF OCS.

But the AF doesn't allow that many to go thru OCS, only 420 AF officers will come from OCS in 2008.

I don't know exactly what you mean, will your retirement years be effected.

You will have to retire after 20 years, and would retire as an officer.

Your retirement pay would be based on your three highest years of earnings.

Also note, you will have to be 35 years old or less when commissioned.

Just wanted you to know that I've flown with pilots in the AF that were prior enlisted in the other services. So becoming an AF officer is possible. Your enlisted time should carry over for your retirement & there's even a special pay chart to look at since you would be an O-1E. Go talk to a recruiter and make sure you have a four year degree.

Not that easy. The AF really doesn't want anyone that isn't their own kind.

YOu need to go talk to an AF officer recruiter. Your prior service with those guys kind of counts against you so you need to write down all your questions to see what you need to do besides take their OAR exam.

As long as you are going active duty to active duty the VA will be straight with your time served already. If going reserve things will change so you need to ask about that as well.

You need to contact an Air Force Officer Recruiter. AF OTS is extremely competitive but somebody has to get in, may as well be you. The time you already have put in count towards retirement. You will need to spend at least ten years in the AF as an officer to retire as one.

Why not try for a Navy commission? The Navy is the big user of nuclear reactors.

Slim, if not impossible. AF takes almost ZERO Prior Service personnel period, let alone commission any.
