I was dating this guy that had an 8 year old daughter. I am convinced that she is his wife. In the begining of the relationship i witnessed her calling him stupid in his face and he said absolutely nothing. She called her dad her "man" to me an he acted as if he did not hear. The girl was left by her mom, but even so, this is no way for a kid to act. What got me was that he did not thing anything was wrong with her behavior until i started complaining. Long story short, towards the end i realzied that she was a brat to the 10th power, and i even told him that know woman will stick around long if he does not control her manipulating ways. Are most guys like this with their daughter. I sometimes use to wonder if he prferes the company of his daughter of a grown woman. Am i over-reacting. I just figured i found a really good guy, and the monkey wrench is his kid. I finally got sick of him and called him weak for letting his kid get over on him and mess up his realtionship.

Regardless of what you think about his daughter, it's important to note, he is human, is a decent man, who respects you and loves his daughter. Girls and boys act up. There is a possibility his daughter embarrassed him in front of you. A daughter has needs that are very great. They need a lot of care. On the other hand, the rewards in having a child far outweigh not having one. The better you know his daughter, the less she will act out. Fathers just cannot take their fathers hat off and park it for a few hours. You will need to spend more time with him and get to know him better before you can make such a quick decision. There is a very real possibility you did find a really good man. But, then again, if you give up, you may never know. Are you telling me, you a wonderful, grown and mature woman is going to let an 8 year old deny you a chance to get to know what maybe the man of your life... You give up too easily

You sound like a very selfish person. This child has lost her mother, and must be so terrified that shes going to lose her dad as well. Shes only a child, and children who behave questionably are usually reacting to something. I'm so pleased that this man behaved like a real man, and put his daughter and her emotional needs before you. Why on earth would you expect anything less? Of course, if he is a decent bloke, he WILL put his child first. If you were a decent, and perhaps a little more mature, you would realise this. They come as a package deal. YOU are the weak one. Not him. I'm so pleased that men like him exsist out there. What a lucky daughter.

He may just have a different way of fathering. Im not a father but if me or my sister treated my father the way she did, well lets say we would pay for it and leave it at that :)

Maybe losing you will help him to see his daughters true colors. But if she calls him names sounds like she has already got the bluff on him. He needs to grow a backbone.

There's no such thing as discipline anymore, anything that resembles it is child abuse.
