Is it possible to only have film negatives created at a major retailer? I'm not interested in having pictures printed, just having the negatives processed. All I want to do is use my 35mm camera to take pictures and then scan the negatives into my computer.

I believe you can actually, but your best bet is to ask (because all stores are different) and you should be charged less for them.

Kodak definitely offer this service and Ilford certainly used to. Some good photographic shops will offer lab services by a third party. Give your local store a call. It's not an unusal request.

It might be best to stay away from the major chain stores and find a professional lab as the quailty will be much better,

If you are in the UK Jessops will do this for you - so long as you ask. I get my negs scanned to CD at the time of processing using a local lab that offers processing services for professional photographers and they use a commercial scanner that gives better results than my Nikon film scanner.

Sure. At my lab, process only is $2.19 USD. Be sure to tell them if you want the negs cut and sleeved or left whole.
