I recently adopted al puppy from the pound i live in a small town and only one lady runs the whole pound. this lady is very sweet and caring and we couldn't ask for a better person for that job. She had a puppy situation about a week ago where she had close to 40 puppies brought to the shelter from various owners some of wich were pit bulls. within days the pit bulls had torn eachother up so bad two of them actually lost ears(9 week old puppies) they all had to be put to sleep for aggression my question is this... isn't it more likely than not that agression is bread into these animals?

Agression can be bread into a dog, if the sire adn ***** are highly agressive then you can be sure the puppies will have that too. This is Impropper breeding and should be outlawed, as one other person stated this is done on purpose with inbreeding witch is something that no respectable dog breeder wants.

Hi Shelby, No it isn't breed into PIT Bulls. It's the A S S H O L E S who abuse them starve them and make them mean and deadly fighters. They really use puppies who isn't mean for bait and training of the stronger Pit Bulls. They tear this poor puppy to pieces and these kind of people need to be put down for the animal abuse and making what would of been a very nice dog if they had went to a caring and loving family. It's not The Pit Bull at all any breed can be sweet and caring animal if treated right and raised with love. I just HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE SAY, "THERE'S ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE PIT BULL KILLERS"!!! And no I don't own a Pitt bull,
but that doesn't mean that I can't get one.
A Friend,

Not at all, its more likely that the little old lady was too sweet and nice and not experienced in animal behaviour enough. Ever heard the phrase 'kill with kindness'? I'd like to know how one woman alone could responsibly deal with 40 puppys at once single handedly. I'd suggest she took on too much for one person to handle and didn't notice the signs of any dis-agreements within the kennels because she was so busy feeding, cleaning and watering.
A 9wk old puppy is highly unlikely to 'chew' off another pups ear within a short time. Its more likely the pups were all housed together and the weakest pups were a target for 'over playful, or, comfort suckling. if you have 40 pups in one kennel it is over crowded and cruel, possibly even illegal. The weakest pups won't get the care they need because they will go unnoticed and they will definatly suffer from over crowding. Whatever the reason for it, in a shelter NO dog should be at risk of bodily harm, any aggression should be noticed immediatly. One person could not give the proper care for this amount of animals.

definite, persons are uneducated approximately pit bulls. Human aggression replaced into specially bred OUT of the pit bull. they are VERY friendly to human beings. And whilst a number of them do tend to have dogs aggression, with early socialization it somewhat is prevented besides. I also have a a million year previous pit bull who can exchange all and sundry's recommendations approximately pit bulls. My mom does not like canines, and he or she HATES pit bulls. once I have been given mine, i replaced into particular she does no longer touch her. extremely, Cadence sits in her lap and provides her kisses on her face, and my mom loves her. in my view, a nicely balanced, nicely behaved pit bull is the superb dogs breed. they could be remarkable canines! hey Cav: you need to perform a little greater examine on pit bulls, and dogs assaults often in case you somewhat have self belief that. Labs and cocker spaniels are greater probably to chew a human that a pit bull. and quite some 'pit bull assaults' that are mentioned have been actual diverse dogs breeds that somebody mistook for a pit bull. And, i replaced into attacked by using a GOLDEN RETRIEVER who left scars on my face. Any dogs could be raised to be an aggressive dogs, and any breed could be raised to be a loving kinfolk better half.

Pitts are very jealous and need lots of attention. They do have a tendency towards fights, same sex more so. It is dependent on breeding and how they are raised. By 9 weeks it seems unlikely they had much of a chance to be raised incorrectly.
Dog personality has a lot to do with it. I have 2 and they are fine, however at one point fostered one who turned on one after a month without provocation. She was awesome with people though. Lots of dogs, not just Pitts just need to be the only dog in the house.

The natural nature of these dogs are loving and devoted to people but not necessarily so with other animals. Most very aggressive ones however are from parents who were taught by people to be mean. Whenever you get a pit you absolutely must know their parentage. If you have more than one they have to be watched closely. They are very powerful and somewhat stubborn. I have three and they absolutely adore everyone, even strangers. But not if other people are aggressive toward them. They have been given a "bad rap" because of individuals who have misused and abused them and train them to fight and kill. My dogs are so precious. All the kids in the neighborhood simply adore them.

It's possible. They were bread to for their strength and for being "game". But the most likely explanation is that their owners were crappy. A lot of these ghetto pit breeders actually inbreed the dogs. Then on top of that they train them to be foul tempered. Sometimes, these fighting dogs are even given drugs to help then build muscles.
This is a question of nature vs. nurture. Genes or environ. So, it could be both but most of the time I believe it's the owners not the dogs.

I think it's more of a stigma for the breed. Usually if animals are brought up in a bad environment and not trained properly, their aggression can come through, and liable to snap at anything and anyone.
But that can be for almost any breed of dog. Just depends on how they are handled.
Dogs are very territorial. They should of been separated, but probably lack of room and cages for them probably.

It's possible, but every single person I have talked to who has had a pitbull has told me that they are actually pretty great dogs and it's the owner's fault if they do not get trained properly. of course, that's just my own experience and I honestly have no clue about how aggressive or not aggressive they naturally tend to be.

i find it hard to believe that 9 week old puppies tore each other up so badly that ears were ripped off. i have yet to ever see any dog, well maybe a chihuahua at 9 weeks that had that kind of aggression. do you like to stir the pot?
