I expect you still live under the same roof? In which case, its normal sibling rivalry, it is virtually impossible to live together without some sort of conflict. You feel your space is being invaded, there's no privacy, you're stuff goes missing or gets broken, or you just rub each other up the wrong way. Sometimes you have to make the most of a bad situation, you could help it along by trying to understand him and his needs, put yourself in his shoes and try and have a conversation with him, nothing too strenuous, probably ask him about his day, the latest fashion, music etc., There is a gulf between you because you both make it like that, be the first to make an effort, it might change his opinion of you as well.

The minute I turned 18, I went to a gun shop and got myself a Derringer to sleep with.
My brother was a major druggie... violent, too.
He and my sister would steal anything of mine they could lay their hands on... I went to a hardware store and got keyed locks for my bedroom door and the door to the bathroom I shared with my sister.
It stinks being in a household where you are on the defensive all the time.
My parents didn't really start dealing with my brother until after I married and got out of there.

I think it's possible, I have a hard time likeing my sister. Just because I don't like her doesn't mean I don't love her. I can understand that you feel you hate your brother, if you really feel like that then why should you feel bad. But if it really bothers you you should try talking with him.

Very much so. In fact it's quite common to hate one's siblings. After all, you are forced into the company of someone you didn't choose as a friend.
Why don't you confront him? Then at least it will be out in the open.

The brother is destable if he commits such mistake which he should not have done under any circumstances. Brother when transgresses his limits of decency an behave in an irresponsible manner, then there is no other alternative than to hate him. I therefore agree t hat it is possible to hate your own brother under given circumtstances.

Look at it another way : imagine if he wasn't there anymore. Would that make you feel sad?
It sounds like normal sibling emotions. I didn't get on with my sister at all when we were young; now we are adults with our own families we get on really well.

Sometimes people expect too much of the people closest to them. Remember familiarity does breed contempt.

As they say you can choose your friends but not your family and there is nothing in the rule book that says that you should love or even like them.

Hmm there's no law that says you have to love your brother! I have to admit to not being overkeen on my sister - I certainly wouldn't chose her as a friend!
