Could someone please tell me how many paracetamol tablets can a chemist legaly sell someone over the counter without a prescription at one time?

Trading Standards guidelines, state that the maximum number of tablets that can be sold to someone over the age of sixteen is 32. This also includes aspirin.

With a doctor's prescription, you could get a hundred.

One of the main problems with paracetamol tablet overdose as opposed to aspirin overdose, is that even if the person had their stomach pumped out, and seemed to recover, often die later painfully from liver failure.

It's two packets of 16 tablets. You used to be able to go to the chemist and buy them 100 at a time. The government changed this a few years ago to help stop people overdosing. I'm sure if you were desperate to overdose on paracetamol you would just go to a few chemists to stock up.

I regularly buy 32 tablets but I believe that the pharmacist does have discretionary powers to increase this level for a known customer.

They can sell 32 as standard BUT they can sell 100 in justifiable circumstances and it's at the pharmacists discression.

Usually, the pharmacist will know you well before he supplies you with 100.

If you need that sort of supply, its best to see your GP for a script.

two packs per person, and supermarkets are supposed to do the same,as a paracetamol ovedose is a very nasty painfull way to die,and all that doctors can do is try to make you comfertable,although there r 1/2 people on here i wouldnt mind shoveling a thousand down
