Got my GMAT scores back, hit a 730. I'm an old man at 32. Sick and tired of being poor (highest salary ever made is 35k). My score indicates I have (within reason) my choice of schools. Poverty has jaded me to the point where I care about nothing except wealth (I know, it disgusts me too). But so it is. What schools/majors will get me six figures upon graduation, and a million a year within a decade. Just feeling it out, and "Yahoo answers" has always provided me with excellent answers to other questions, so what the heck. Please don't respond unless you really know what you're talking about. And sorry about being a materialistic a**hole. I wasn't always. Thanks!!

"Got my GMAT scores back" is more accurately "Took the GMAT this week", as you get your scores immediately. Sorry for any confusion.

A 730 is slightly above average for a top school, and will get you into most other schools below top tier--however, your UG school and GPA count, even after all this time. A problem with being an "older student" is that the highest paid professions (investment banking and consulting) will be VERY difficult to break into--I was also an older student (in my 30's) at Columbia Business School. Even though I had good experience, I was basically locked out of the more lucrative jobs. I don't regret going, but you must be realistic in what you can accomplish by going to an MBA program in your 30's. I do know one person who did go into banking, and he's doing OK, but not stellar.

I would ask some very frank questions from alumni at the schools where you will be applying, and get a sense of where the older students place in jobs, not just the entire student body. You should major in finance, as that is the most appropriate for what you apparently would like to do. If you have the skill for modeling and the like, you would be highly employable in the field--otherwise try for public finance or something along that line.

Pick your school carefully--Columbia was a very good choice for me as with a large student body, I was able to make my own niche. I did all that I could do in school (such as take a semester in Europe and travel on a number of study trips). Also realize that you will not be able to work very much and you will need to take student loans out for your tuition and living expenses.

Good luck in your pursuit--let me know if I can answer any more questions. I am still very involved with the school and alumni.

The highest-paid undergraduate degrees would probably be in Commerce or a BBA. But you say you're getting a MBA. There's really no choice in the major. You can only choose the school. A 730 is pretty good, and you should be able to get into at least a mid-high range of schools.

I don't think money is everything, but I think you're all right in caring so much about money. Once you make around six figures, then your basic needs will be met, and you can care about other stuff.

This website has the school rankings. Also, it has a program that calculates when your degree will pay off.
