The short answer to this is, yes. Many people are cured of their cancers - but unfortunately some are not.
There are three important factors which affect the chance of having a cure: the type of cancer, how 'advanced' that cancer is when it is discovered, and how well the cancer responds to treatment.
Cancer is not a single disease. There are hundreds of different types of cancer and each of these different types has different chances of cure. So, for example, cures are very common in conditions like breast cancer, bowel cancer, testicular cancer, skin cancer and Hodgkin lymphoma, but they are much less common in cancers of the lung, pancreas and stomach.
For any one type of cancer, a tumour that is diagnosed when it is small and has not spread at all will always have a better chance of a cure than one that is only discovered when it is more advanced, and has grown to a large size and sent seedlings, called secondary cancers, to other parts of the body. So, for example, a bowel cancer that has not spread beyond the lining of the wall of the bowel is usually completely cured by an operation whereas a bowel cancer that is only found when it has already sent seedlings to the liver is only rarely curable. On the other hand, with cancers that are very sensitive to treatment, such as Hodgkin lymphoma or testicular cancer, most people can still be cured even when the cancer has developed widespread secondaries.
It is important to mention that modern cancer treatments are also improving cure rates. Many kinds of cancer that were almost always incurable fifty years ago are now routinely cured by modern day therapies.-

It's too hard, at the moment. Everything scientific builds on the work before it. But with cancer, we really don't know what we're talking about yet - the basics of genetics and the immune system still aren't established enough. My guess is that cancer of virtually every type will not be cured for another 25 years. And in the meantime, lots and lots of research and trial and error will have to get done..

Cancer is hundreds of diseases, not just one. The difficulty is that different cancers are caused by different things, so no one strategy can prevent them, and different cancers respond to different treatments so no one treatment can cure them all
Quite a few cancers can be cured these days though. Cancer Research UK says that 7 out of 10 children are cured of cancer. Testicular cancer, Hodgkin's disease, and many cases of leukaemia can all be cured in adults with chemotherapy, most skin cancers are cured with surgery, and many cases of thyroid cancer and cancer of the larynx are cured with radiotherapy.
Many other types of cancer are also cured if they are found early enough - 75% of breast cancers found at stage one for example. There is still a long way to go, especially with some of the commonest types of cancer such as lung, breast, bowel and prostate cancer.
There's no conspiracy to hide or prevent a cancer cure in order to maximise profits, as some of these replies suggest The conspiracy theory is an urban myth, generally circulated by those who have not had cancer or close experience of it. Consider, if there were such a conspiracy:
*whoever discovered the cure would be keeping quiet, even though it would bring them fame and fortune.
*every medical professional in the whole world would have agreed to keep the cure secret. Every single one. One blabbermouth, one disgruntled researcher or sacked nurse and the whole conspiracy’s blown.
*the thousands of people who would have to have been cured by it in order to prove it worked would be keeping quiet about it too. Newspapers and other media wouldn't have got a sniff of it.
*doctors, scientist, researchers etc would be watching their relatives die and dying themselves (they and their families develop cancer at the same rate as the rest of the population) even though they knew of a cure

There is much research going on in all types of cancer to try and find a cure. Biological therapies such as cancer vaccines, monoclonal antibodies and gene therapies are all active areas of research. There is also research into how cancers grow their own blood supplies. Researchers are beginning to test 'anti-angiogenic' drugs that may be able to stop that happening and so stop cancers from growing. Of course you still have to find them early enough for this to be a cure. But there is hope that this treatment may also stop cancer secondaries from developing. Dedicated hard work by the very people the conspiracy theorists claim are trying to hide a cure.

Many people - invariably those who have not had cancer or been close to it - have pet theories about what causes and prevents it, and how to treat it. Existing treatments - chemotherapy and radiotherapy - are not perfect, far from it, but we know, because they have been clinically tested and proven, that they save some lives and extend many others.

enough with the top contributors,..they mean well but they may be holding stock in the pharmaceutical industry,..we the people, the proletariate have the power to make change, actually dollars, to bring the country to a more balanced state of a union,..the banks as well as the pharmaceutical industry,..cancer can be defeated by eating organic apricot seeds,..was just at a wal mart grocery store and guess what, no apricots, except for the seedless cut and preservatized,..you think they don't know,..most of these 'diseases' can be eradicated by properly maintaining our bodies' nutritional intake of the vitamins, minerals and oils,..a sickly nation is money in their pockets, banks, vaults,..and the fda can not regulate apricot seeds,..like when you have a headache, is it an aspirin, tylenol or advil deficiency as to why you have a headache,..is it feed a cold and drown a fever,..like what has been typed b4, only a true communist government will take care of the nation and bring prosperity for all citizens,..notice that the military stays fairly healthy,..we can smell change and taste the redemption of the proletariate,..

I know people who haved cured themselves of cancer. It is very possible. Your body wants to heal itself, you only have to let it. My friend went 100% raw vegan, and cleansed her body, and prayed, and meditated and willed the cancer gone. And gone it was. It took her about 4 months. It is not a unique story. We all have the power to heal ourselves, if we look within and follow our bodys cues rather than some 'expert.'

Because drug companies make too much money by treating cancer. If it was cured, they would lose a huge chunk of their market.

It's a con. See http://www.newstarget.com/009587.html.
Also, my wife has the very medical texts the doctors use. It's the Guyton & Hall "Textbook of Medical Physiology" eleventh edition. Their text is used in most mainstream medical curriculums and is the bible when it comes to physiology. They say on page 41, starting with the second paragraph - "Only a minute fraction of the cells that mutate in the body ever lead to cancer. There are several reasons for this. First, most mutated cells have less survival capability and simply die. Second, only a few of the mutated cells that do survive become cancerous, because even most mutated cells still have normal feedback controls that prevent excessive growth.
Third, those cells that are potentially cancerous are often, if not usually, destroyed by the body's immune system before they grow into cancer. This occurs in the following way: Most mutated cells form abnormal proteins within their cell bodies because of their altered genes, and these proteins activate the body's immune system, causing it to form antibodies or sensitized lymphocytes that react against the cancerous cells, destroying them. In support of this is the fact that in people whose immune systems have been suppressed, such as those taking immunosuppressant drugs after kidney or heart transplantation, the probability of a cancer's developing is multiplied as much as fivefold."
http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=0091-6765%28198202%2943%3C21%3ACI%3E2.0.CO%3B2-9&size=LARGE&origin=JSTOR-enlargePage states that "Chemotherapeutic agents are widely used in clinical medicine for the treatment of conditions where diminution of the host immune response is a goal." This page also says "The use of immunosuppressive drugs in clinical medicine is necessary to diminish the immune response to a point where responses to undesirable foreign antigens are elminated." This, to me, looks like CONCLUSIVE evidence that chemo causes cancer. Chemo drugs, we know, destroy the immune system, and Guyton & Hall state that with a suppressed immune system, the probability of developing cancer is 5 times higher.
Guyton and Hall also say later on that same page - "probabability of mutations can be increased manyfold when a person is exposed to certain chemical, physical, or biological factors, including the following:
1. It is well known that ionizing radiation, such as x-rays, gamma rays, and particle radiation from radiocative substances, and even ultraviolet light can predispose individuals to cancer. Ions formed in tussue cells under the influence of such radiation are highly reactive and can rupture DNA strands, thus causing many mutations.
2. Chemical substances of certain types also have a high propensity for causing mutations. It was discovered long ago that various aniline dye deritatives are likely to cause cancer, so that workers in chemical plants producing such substances, if unprotected, have a special predisposition to cancer. Chemical substances that can cause mutation are called carcinogens. That carcinogens that currently cause the greatest number of deaths are those in cigarette smoke. They cause about one quarter of all cancer deaths.
3. Physical irritants also can lead to cancer, such as continued abrasion of the linings of the intestinal tract by some types of food. The damage to the tissues leads to rapid mitotic replacement of the cells. The more rapid the mitosis, the greater the chance for mutation.
4. In many families, there is a strong hereditary tendency to cancer. This results from the fact that most cancers require not one mutation but two or more mutations before cancer occurs. In those families that are particularly predisposed to cancer, it is presumed that one or more cancerous genes are already mutated in the inherited genome. Therefore, far fewer additional mutations must take place in such family members before a cancer begins to grow.
5. In laboratory animals, certain types of viruses can cause some kinds of cancer, including leukemia. This usually results in one of two ways. In the case of DNA viruses, the DNA strand of the virus can insert itself directly into one of the chromosomes and thereby cause a mutation that leads to cancer. In the case of RNA viruses, some of these carry with them an enzyme called reverse transcriptase that causes DNA to be transcribed from the RNA. The transcribed DNA then inserts itself into the animal cell genome, leading to cancer."
There's five known causes. Prevention by elimination of these risks can be accomplished. We also know from Colin Campbell's work in The China Study that your chances of getting cancer are DRAMATICALLY reduced with diet and lifestyle choices. Guyton & Hall and Campbell appear to agree. Some on this site say they still get cancer on a good diet. However, Campbell doesn't say cancer is impossible when these risks are removed - he just says your chances of contracting it are dramatically reduced. It also appears that breast cancer is a particularly common type of cancer. Further risk reduction can be found here - http://www.newstarget.com/022157.html. One other tip to the ladies with breast cancer - instead of getting a mastectomy and going the drug route, you might consider black salve to pull the tumors out through the skin. One of my wife's client's friends does this. One source of the black salve is through NDs such as http://www.osasgarden.com.
"You did what you knew how to do, and when you knew better, you did better" - Maya Angelou. Please educate yourself in your fight to eliminate cancer. When you find the truth, use it.
Seek and you will find.
