Atheism is about basing your knowledge on the universe on what man says it is. Atheism is a belief system and religiously followed. It just is nothing about God in it. Nor does it value human life above any other form of life. We exist like anything else and then we perish.
A religious view shows us life continues as surely as a seasons that change in time. One can witness now in the Northern Hemisphere all the leaves have changed colors and have fallen off. They seem to be dead in the Winter. But we know Spring is a rebirth of that which once seemed dead.
And we see a caterpillar that creeps on the earth. It too dies in a cocoon for a season but it transforms itself into a new creature and flies. It has a newness to life that the old caterpillar did not have.
Some religions say this. Jesus Christ who was God in the flesh said man is reborn in spirit and in water into an eternal new life and becomes a new creature in God.. And the creator of all the earth should know what that is all about. And we see living examples of a reborn life after a seeming death.

I am a Jehovah Witness (a form of Christianity.) I feel my opinion here can be counted as Christian. Anyway – an atheist is a person that does not believe or show faith in spiritual creatures. As for my opinion, I have friends and family that is atheist – they are very nice people. They just have a different perspective on life. Everyone has the right to think the way they want to.

It represents the inherant desire in mankind to rule his own destiny.without the advocacies of any divine influence.
Atheism is the embodiment of self pride and independance.
It would lead to the ruin of mankind if left to his own will.Atheist are fooling themselves if they naively believe that everything would be hunky dory if radical religion was non existent. The self pride of mankind would make slavery, war and other horrors acceptable practices.
Many blame wars and unpleasantness upon religious(christian/judea) sources as their example of why religion is bad. There have been far fewer wars having to do with religion than any other reason.Atheist need to think for themselves instead of becoming the sheep they profess to admonish.Any reasonable person would realize the futility of the athiest ideology.
A previous poster said atheism is the true and oldest religion.
look through history and see the violence that was committed by all peoples. What makes one believe without religion things would have ever changed.Do you think slavery would have ever stopped in America without the teachings of religion.Do you think women would still be treated poorly(it still happens around the world)
It is the will of mankind to insure he is number 1 and mankind will do whatever it takes to be number 1.However kindness would not dictate these decisions.
Wake up atheist.

This is an incomplete question. The atheism on R&S is way different than the atheism of John Q. Public world wide. The two atheisms are about different things and different agendas.

Atheism denies the power of a creator or master life force. Everything is a result of a random event. We have no souls and no hope for life beyond our current body.

I think it's about an individuals right to believe in God or not...and they chose not. To them, there's no proof of God or a reason to think that He even exists. They have no spiritual needs to fill. Also, they have no right to push their beliefs on others. If someone doesn't like "under God" in the Pledge, then don't say it when it comes to that part. Christians don't force their beliefs on others (not anymore...and those people were crazy).
All I can say is, if you don't believe in God, you better hope that you're right.

Foolishness. Well, you asked. The fool has said in his HEART "there is no God". To paraphrase Solomon: You can tell a fool by the way he walks down the street.
You have to stop fooling yourself before you can find the path to God. Saying that path is not worth walking is just more foolishness.

Belief in no higher power or deity. I don't think atheists are bad people. Of course, because of my beliefs, I think they're wrong. Same as they think I'm wrong. It's like "As the World Turns." You can miss six months, come back, and it's all the same.

The atheists who come to this website indicate that they have a need to fight against the teaching of a God who is non-existant to them.
Seems like a great waste of time .....unless they see a need to convince themselves that God doesn't exist.

It's about people who don't believe God exists. The reasons for people being atheists are probably as many as there are atheists.
