It depends on the type of drug, the quantity and the context. For instance if it is a small amount of marijuana, and it's a first offence then maybe only a slap on the wrist will ensue. If we are talking about large amounts of opiates or meth on the otherhand, it could be 20+ years in prison. It also depends on the jurisdiction - whether it's state or federal and whether it involved intrastate, interstate or international trafficking.

Unlike some countries, Australia doesn't have the death penalty.
