the difference bettween a short slug and a long slug is weight only,as they can't get any wider they have to get longer,the lighter slug will shoot higher and go faster than the heavey slug the heavey slug though slower will cause more concusion on impact with the target, meaning it will hit harder ,hope this helps.

The bigger the slug, the slower it travels but the harder the impact. Bigger slugs have less range but more takedown power
