It is just a quirk of the show that started by accident. The first time his face wasn't shown so many people responded that the tradition continued. The guy, I forget his name died not too long ago.

That was a part of the schtick. It was all in fun and designed to keep folks watching in hopes of seeing Wilson. I am sorry but I can not remember the actor's name. Sadly though, he passed away only short time after the show folded and every body went home. But, if you look up Home Improvement on line you can undoubtedly find his real name. Then go to images in the tool bar and type his name in. You might even try typing in Home Improvement's Wilson. That might get it done for you.

Earl Hindman died of lung cancer on Dec. 29, 2003, aged 61. Prior to 'Home Improvement', he played Detective Lt. Bob Reid for 16 years on the daytime drama, 'Ryan's Hope'.

It's a running joke of the show, whenever you see Wilson, his face is hiding behind something. I would suggest you go to Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com) and search the show, yes, they have shows on there too.

That's just something they do to be clever. Just an interesting aspect of their show. Another show they did that on was the Muppets, you never saw the nanny's face. I almost think there was another show they did that on, it just kind of peaks your interest and leaves you wondering.
The actor is Earl Hindman, and if you Google image search, you can find his pictures.

its an old joke that goes back to the first season. Just google "earl hindman" and you'll find pictures of him. Did you know he died of cancer? sad really
