I've had my first tattoo done on the lower left side of my back for over 2 months now, so I would assume that it's healed. I think. Everything was fine, no bleeding, no puss, I took care of it pretty well. But lately, it has started to itch quite frequently. And the bottom half of it (like where my pants would usually cover) has these little bumps, from like irritation or something. So it feels sorta rough, and looks a bit cracked? Or dry? But I have always kept it moisturized. So I don't know if it's alright. Or if eczema has anything to do with it. Help!

If it's over 2 months old and you are just having a reaction now you are most likely not allergic to the tattoo ink.

Anything could be causing that irritation; your clothes, detergent you use, the seasons changing, dry skin, etc. Also, sometimes I've noticed that in the winter the outlines for my tattoos that were put in heavily will get raised because the scar tissue can become irritated.

Keep moisturizing it with something gentle and unscented like Cetaphil. If you have eczema on any other parts of your body, this may just be a new area and you may want to contact your dermatologist. You can also try Vitamin E right from the capsule.

Hope it gets better

Tattoos need to be lotioned daily after they are gotten for maximum life. Remember that tattoos are scars, and the skin is different there..

mine on my arm do the samething everyonce in a while..

I try taking a bath on a regular basis,
Keeping them clean,
and i use AQUAPHOR
as it seems to be better at anything for making tattoos vibrant,
not dry and cracked, and still looking great on down the road.

Tattoos should be gotten then forgotten..

I notice, that little heat bumps, or small pimple like things show up on mine.

But then again I dont scratch it for ANYTHING..
no matter what it feels like..

Then again.. I have disciplined my self to not scratchin in the military, as they wont let you wipe, or scratch anything off yourself in training. Gives up the location your hiding it..

So that may be why I dont scratch..
but yeah.. those bumps are annoying..
they usually happen when ive worked hard all day and sweated, or didnt take a bath, or got grease on them(i work on cars)

I dunno what the problem is, but keep at it..
Keep it clean, the back has the tendency to get really oily.
maybe an ingrown hair, from where they shaved ya to do the tattoo..
if its only a month old..
Ive had a few of those... that looked nasty and itched...
but after the hair grew out, they stopped.

good luck

also

alot of people say use neosporen..
ive always heard that neosporen fades tattoos and pulls the ink out when they are healing. and ive seen some good tattoos go to waste with that. I cant say that the person did take good care of there tattoos. I dont use peroxide, or alcohol on my cuts, or bumps.

how deep did they dig the needle in?
its not a requirement they go as deep as they can.
The better tattoos ive seen havnt been dug in deep.
Ive seen some infections due to artists that really dig it in..

I dunno why this happens.. but they take alot longer..
The exact same thing happened on my most recent tattoo..
I got it done by someone out of town thats not my regular artist, and they dug it in, I used the same healing ointment, Aquaphor, and it took about 3 weeks longer to heal, and it got REALLY ROUGH and scabby even with the WET heal technique.. and the tattoo was alot smaller, ect.. my smallest tattoo, and its been over a month and its just now doing that..
I really think it might be your hair growing back...
that to me itches more than the tattoos..
a decent artist shaves first before tattooing..

Acne seems to usually occur after a tattoo is healed because of certain aftercare products. For instance, after a shower most people lather on lotion ( although it's good to lock in moisture and makes your tattoo more radiant ) you may have to skip it and just leave it alone. It could be clogging your pores. You'll see the little white heads fade away after a day or two. There are non-comedogenic lotions that you may want to experiment with also. In the summer or warmer weather,I don't use anything on my tattoos. My body already creates it's own moisture so no need to over due it ( unless i use sunscreen w/moisturizer to go out ) but if I'm just hanging around the house,no need. And drink water, its good for skin hydration. The winter i use lotion to protect from the cold. I get little red/white heads in my right upper arm tattoo..that's it lol..it's very annoying, but when I just shower, pat it dry with a paper towel and let it be..they're gone in a day, just don't pop them..good luck.

itchy? yes, it's normal! the bumps you are refering to might be the scabs that are just starting to separate from the skin. They will drop by themselves eventually and leave you with fresh smooth skin that bears the color of your tattoo. That is, if you make sure not to sratch or pick/separate those scabs by force, else you end up with scars on top of tattoo. The healing takes about 2 weeks, give or take 2 days, so bear with it just for a few more days. in the meantime, wash them with warm soap & water and put some tattoo ointment in them.

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.
Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.
5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.
6/ Do this for 90 days.
7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.

A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.

The secret is never to touch the spots
