Hi Jennifer,

What a very rewarding thing to do! You can use something such as www.volunteermatch.org to find opportunities throughout the U.S. and a previous poster also made tons of great suggestions. You can volunteer with a range of things from helping specific non profits to answering questions for people needing help with all types of ???? go to yahoo.com and 'search your specific interest'.

The best thing to do is find a group or interest you really love and contact the executive director of the organization personally. Even if they are not 'advertising' a position, many times they will not deny 'free help'. You can offer whatever your expertise is i.e.online mentoring or if you are from marketing or web programming background you can help create flyers and corporate sponsorship forms or set them up with an online newsletter or a blog. Many times they would absolutely LOVE to get this kind of help bc they want to do this stuff but simply don't have resources or techincal know how to get started.

I work with all kinds of groups setting up blogs and maintaining websites covering all kinds of interests from Nights of 100 Elvises to Inner City Kids Sailing Regattas. However, many of the groups I work with are local so once a year I get to attend their major fundraiser, gala or holiday party.

I agree with the poster who stated do whatever you are passionate about. It makes it easier to continue to go and work, rain or shine, snow or hurricane and work for 'free' when you totally dig and are into what you are doing.

Best of luck with your new adventure. Stick with it....and you too will start living your 'Heart Knocks Life' :)
