Hello,
All 4 wisdom teeth of mine have cavities, are infected and causing great pain. They have been infected for the past few months I believe, but I just got my dental insurance. I am getting all 4 extracted tomorrow.
I was no prescribed anti-biotics. I was wondering, how do we know this infection didn't spread to my bloodstream, heart or brain yet? Can I die from this? Should I seek further treatment after the teeth are out tomorrow?
Thanks so much,
Adam

Also once the teeth are out, how long will have to pass for me to know that I am totally ok from any infection??? How much time will have to pass? Thanks!

It is theoretically possible but you are not that likely to have any lingering problem since they will be extracted tomorrow.
In this area the major hospitals are starting sections where they have a full time dentist on staff to look for exactly those problems since you really can get an infection leading to heart failure - they do take it seriously.

It suprises me if there really infected your dentist should of prescribed you antibiotics. He must not of thought they were at risk. He will after they are pulled, Make sure to get vicodin or you will be in extreme pain. But yes a person can die from an infected tooth. It can close your throat or infect an eye is what my dentist just told me. People have died from heart failure. Make sure you go when you have a tooth ache right away to prevent further decay and pain. Trust me!

So let's get a little bit clear about tooth decay: Yes. Believe it or not it can kill you. I had a client who nearly died from a myocardial infarction caused by a bolus of tooth decay that got into his blood stream, lodged in one of the arteries leading to his heart and nearly killed him. No. It doesn't happen a lot, but it can and does happen. Also, think about exactly what's happening in your body when you have a chronic disease state/infection going on. Does it make you stronger, or weaker??? Think about this. Think about the close proximity of the mouth to the brain (in most people anyway...), think about how vascularized the head is, and think
about how intractible and how potentially deadly infections in bone tissue are. Heard of osteomyelitis and anaerobic bacteria, anyone??? Not something to gamble with, I think.

Honestly, you can. It has happened before. I heard on the news awhile back about a kid dying from some type of infection due to the fact that he couldn't go to the dentist or something. I think it had to do with insurance or something. But, I think it's pretty rare. Talk to your oral surgeon tomorrow, but try not to worry too much. Like I said, it's very rare so there's really no reason to be concerned. You'll feel so much better once they're out!

i don't think you'd die becoz of tooth infection. but my mum told me that the dentist said wisdom teeth bring no good so its okay to remove them..they are easy to get infected since most people easily miss to brush their wisdom teeth (considering they are far behind our mouth.. and your toothbrush condition..you know i'm saying..) anyway, getting them infected won't bother your health.. however, get the professional to advise you what to do..
/* sorry my English not good*/
good luck!

Your dentist may give you antibiotics tomorrow. You might want to ask as well.
