You are right, that we are saved only by grace through faith- however I believe some people just cannot grasp that thought because nothing this good could be free , could it? But of course it is. Some people look at the book of James and interpret the passage "faith without works is dead" as saying that works are apart of salvation- and that is a false interpretation. What James is saying is that once saved we will desire to do works that God has ordained for us to do. This is always said in Ephesians 2:10. It is by grace that we have been saved- and once saved we will desire to complete the work that God ordained for us long before the creation of this world. Works cannot save.

The poster above is just repeating something they heard. Look at the message preched in Acts, in which 3000 Jews converted. It was the same message in the Gospels. You know when that was preached? 50 days after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Also in attendance were over 150 other Disciples who would have quicly rebuked the Apostles had they said anything wrong, as they were there for Jesus' teachings as well. Also, Pauls letter to the Corinthians was written in the mid 50's AD.
Anyhow, to the OP. People get it confused where we are told that fiath without works is dead. That does not mean works save us. It simply means, if we are truly wlaking with Christ, if we were truly converted, then the things we do with our life will prove that. Matthew Chapter 7 also adresses this. Sadly, many people demean Jesus Christ's work on the cross, basically slapping Him in the face and telling Him that wasn't good enough, and feel they "have" to do these works. If they are truly saved, they will "WANT" to do those things and it will be natural.

While no action or work we do can help us obtain salvation, God's intention is that our salvation will result in acts of service. We are not saved merely for our own benefit but to serve Christ and build up the church.

This question is asked a lot and I have thought about it a lot. Here is my answer. It is our faith and faith alone that saves us. Once we are saved it is our works that show our faith. If you claim to be saved and yet have no works. Your life has not changed from when you were lost then are you really saved? Salvation brings about a change of life.

Of course it is not by our works. We all fall short. None of us can achieve salvation on our own. That is all this says. Tell me where in the Bible it says "Ye shall be saved regardless of your works?" It doesn't. We are saved by grace according to our faith and works, but faith in works alone are nothing without grace.

Believe if you want, but do not put your belief so high that you force others to believe like you...The Bible is edited and the chapters chosen by men, you must realize that...god may have given us a message, but did we follow his wishes and intent to the letter?...i don't think so because all men are imperfect...they may have had good intentions, but they were just men...God did not publish the Bible, at most he spoke to some men (but that is uncertain as well...research the Morman church and the mysterious tablets of gold that miraculously disappeared.

your works is doing for others laying your life down so that a other would live, and do all that you do for JESUS in his name. Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

It's also very clear that those "words" were oral stories handed down for hundreds of years, recorded by scribes, then changed by the church. It doesn't sound very "Jesus-like" to say that there is only way to "God." I think that you need to read the history first, and then decide what sits right with your faith. You should also ask yourself what you need to be saved from, if you were created in the perfect image of "God."
