I have jumper cables, fire extinguisher, fix-a-flat can, check my spare, little spot light that plugs into the cigarette lighter, good jack, good wrench and I carry my tools and a cell phone.
I have helped many people from time to time and managed to get out of every scrape I got myself into.

yes I do as well as many of the things listed in other's answers. Some additional things I carry are peanut butter (non perisable food), kitty litter (great for getting unstuck from ice), reflective vest, raincoat and umbrella, triangles, and a candle (amazing how much heat one will give off!).

Yep, im a bit over-kill but i use my tools for work, i have a toolbox, full size air compressor, couple flashlights and just about everything else you can think of. And i've had to use every bit of it at some point (other than work).

Sure.. and I've had to use them. I recently had this can of tire inflator rolling around in the trunk. Got a nail in my tire, and that can pomped it up and got me off the freeway and to a station.
