i've had them for a year and a half and i'm getting frustrated with how they look. my teeth have straightened a lot, but they look yellow. i brush and brush and use mouthwash everytime after i eat, wake up, and go to bed. anyone have any ideas?? i can't take them off to whiten them (the ortho said they do that in the end when they come off, but i want them to look at least a little whiter now!!)

There is no point trying to whiten before the braces are removed , as the bleach will not get under the brackets.
Then, when your braces are removed you'll have cute little yellow squares on your teeth!
Wait till post-braces.

The one thing that I didn't read in your question (and it may not have made it in there) is that there is no flossing. Flossing is key to removing stains, I know it sucks with braces on, but it's worth it for a healthy, bright smile. Definitely do not whiten your teeth because once the brackets come off there will be the shade that once was underneathe, which will obviously clash with an otherwise brilliant smile. It's good that you brush and use mouthwash, but definitely floss hardcore...at least when you wake up, go to bed, and after main meals.

Try using Listerine Whitening or whatever.. the big white bottle and then the little one.. they usually come as a pair.. or wait until your orthodontist takes your braces off and they will bleach your teeth because when you get your braces off you have squares from where the brackets were glued.

well you could try whitening strips, but the down side is that it'll affect the metal on your braces, and then you'll be left with little yellow spots where the bracetts were left. So its probably not wise to whitenthem at all because you'll be left with little yellow spots as unfortunate reminders of the color your teeth once were. =]

Get a bottle of peroxide and some q-tips. Put on a lot of the peroxide and wipe down the teeth. That is cheap and effective.
