Are you kidding? Don't you understand, men don't stop and ask for directions when we are lost. Can you imagine a guy with 30 options for birth control. He wouldn't stop to ask which one is right for the moment. So they only made 2 for men that way it is less confusing for us.

We could get into a very long debate about how women's fidelity and control of the birth process has always been one of society's prime issues, and that for centuries, the only way to be sure of paternity was to contain and control the female, but -
Women benefit from birth control in other ways (choosing pregnancy, easing menses management, life planning, etc) - she has very good reason to maintain that control and tell the truth about it.
The only way a man could benefit from a "male birth control pill" outside of that is if it were mixed with Viagra. If he doesn't take it, what are his consequences? He's not going to get knocked up, and his life will not change in any way.
It's unfair to men who would prefer not to father children and would like to have more control over that besides condoms, but really: would you trust a man, about to get into bed, to tell you the truth about whether he took his pill/shot/patch this morning?
Edited to add: As for STDs, condoms (including the female condom), dental dams, gloves, and safer sex practices are the only ways to prevent STDs, and those require the awareness and participation of both partners. Anybody can bring those to the party.

It's because birth control, controls the levels of hormones that we produce. When you have a lower estrogen level its less likly for you to get preganate. Also you can build, in a sence, a shell around the egg so that the sperm can not get in. That's why there are so many options for women. Men are always going to have sperm 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Women don't always have an egg and thats why!

I agree that men rule the world and basically women are treated as a lesser species. Bit more equal in the Western world, but it's the majority that counts, and the majority of women in the world have few if any rights still. Remember, the majority of the world's population has never used a telephone... so, technology is really not the key ingredient here anyway.

I suppose just because no one has been clever enough to figure out how to stop sperm production without having major side effects. I remember in pharmacy school a couple of years ago they were discussing drugs that had started to be looked into as possible male birth control, but they just didn't work out, either because of side effects, or just because they were ineffective. I guess there's probably not a lot of financial incentive for drug companies to make these drugs either, as men are probably less likely to use them, and because the female birth control market is booming.

Somebody probably already said this, but would YOU trust a man to be in charge of birth control and STD prevention? I wouldn't. Men don't have to worry about getting pregnant, so there are more options for females than males. If men were the ones who stressed about possibly getting pregnant, you can be sure there'd be numerous options for them.

This is because most Doctors are men and they don't want any restrictions on their sexuallity. They prefer to place prevention on women. They will tell a woman to have a histerectomy rather than tell a man to get a vasectomy. Just male shovenist pigs.

One reason may be that an unplanned pregancy is a bigger problem for women than for men, so women are more motivated to try new methods.
The other, and bigger reason is that women only produce one egg every month so methods only have to work that one moment. Men produce millions if not billions of sperm every day, preventing that is a bigger problem.

I know of no man that can get pregnant so I would think two forms of birth control is overkill. Just chalk it off to living in a capitalist society. It reminds me of those costumes people dress dogs in even though you know dogs don't go trick-or-treating because it offends their Hindu morals.
