Doorknob (accessible on both sides), or get a double latch with a rod that goes through the fence.

First off - answers to all of your fencing questions can quickly be found at www.fencewizard.blogspot.com.
This 10' fence that you have must be some type of Deer Fence, I assume that it is not a privacy fence of any kind.
I recommend using (2) strike latches, one above the midpoint and one below. The actual latch installation will depend on what type of posts you have.

Most folks wouldnt put a latch on a fence... theyre fairly common on GATES tho, hehehee.... and what kind of latch depends on what kind of gate youve got.
What is your gate/fence made of (chain link, woven wire, steel, wood, etc) ?
What kind of gate (single swing, sliding, etc) ?
Any of the large building supply chains (like Lowe's) will carry several kinds of latches... you can also find them at hardware and farm supply stores.
Have Fun
