I'm a former soldier and I know those records are sealed. The Privacy act of 1978 protects them. You may be able to contact your local congressman if your father has already passed. I'm not sure they can do it either but it's worth a shot. Just google it and find out your congressmans email and/or actual address.

First you need a copy of his dd-214 if you dont have that check your courthouse . all military are supposed to file them in their home county courthouse when released.. then you may need to contact your congressman because all records are pretty much sealed up w/o a good reason... good luck
