MO and DO cavities/fillings are found on posterior (back) teeth only... The 'O' represents 'occlusal', which is your chewing surface.. anterior (front teeth) do not have a chewing surface....

M (mesial) represents the surface of the tooth that is closest to the midline, which is an imaginary line that divides your face in half. D (distal) represents the surface of the tooth that is farthest from the midline.

To better understand the locations, the D surface would be behind the very last tooth you have in all four corners of your mouth, and the M surface would be 'up and over' the tooth, coming forward.

Also, when you floss, you are cleaning out where the M and D surfaces meet each other.

~Hope this helped~

MO stands for mesio-occlusal.

DO stands for disto-occlusal.

The occlusal surface is the surface of the tooth that is in contact with the other teeth, meaning the top of the tooth.

The mesial surface is the side of the tooth that is nearest to the midline of the face. Therefore, the mesial surface of any of your right teeth is the left side of the tooth, whereas the mesial surface of any of your left teeth is on the right side of the tooth - if you're looking at it from inside the mouth.

The distal surface is the side of the tooth that is furthest away from the midline.

Therefore, when a cavity is cut, a mesio-occlusal cavity is a cavity that extends from the mesial side of the tooth onto the occlusal surface. Likewise, a disto-occlusal cavity is a cavity that extends from the distal side of the tooth onto the occlusal surface.

Hope this helps.

HELLO ARMY WIFE,

THESE ARE INITIALS FOR DENTAL FILLINGS AND THE FORM THEY HAVE.
AN MO= MESIAL-OCCUSAL, AND THIS IS WHERE THE CAVITY WAS IN THE FRONT AND TOP OF THE TOOTH.
A DO= DISTAL-OCCUSAL. WHERE THE CAVITY IS TOWARDS THE REAR AND TOP OF THE TOOTH.

THESE DESCRIPTIONS ARE FOR CAVITIES AS WELL AS WHAT TYPE OF FILLING IS SEEN.
