In an older issue of Guitar One, they had a section offering their Best 100 Guitar Albums. I read it, absorbed it, and made quite a few purchases from the list. The one that still befuddles me is The Best of BeBop Deluxe, a UK band. Oh yeah, I can hear guitar in there, but it's been compiled from the early Seventies, and I just can't connect. It's a period piece of music and definitely NOT hard rock or metal. Every time I've tried to accept the darned thing I just can't get past the fluff. Maybe because I was already out of high school and on to heavier fare.

A recent disappointment would be the 'Stooges' album called 'The Weirdness'. It does nothing for me, the production is dismal and thin, and Iggy's voice and lyrical content remind me of an old green moldy piece of cheese!

A disappointing album purchase from the distant past would be Paul McCartney's 1st solo album simply titled 'McCartney'. Keep in mind, his solo career had not really materialized at this point, and I was expecting something majestic, along the lines of 'Abbey Road' I guess.
I held that album, along with the self titled 'Grand Funk Railroad' album in my hands that day, but I only had $2.99 in my pocket. So for some silly reason I chose 'McCartney'. Eventually I learned to enjoy that McCartney album, but it took awhile. Looking back, I should have picked the 'Grand Funk Railroad' album...I enjoy that much more, and still play it today on a regular basis.

I got Britney's 1st album too, I was upset because I hated it and my little friends thought it was something great. I had to fake liking her, The Backstreet Boys, and NSync. Then I realized all of those people sucked and so did my previous friends, only then did I start listening to the music I really enjoyed.
I have to admit that I just recently spent $22 on a Steely Dan album and I only like one song..."Reelin In The Years"
St. Anger from Metallica is pretty bad too, there might be one song I can stomach to listen to, maaaaybe.

Back in the 1990's.... I had Take That albums!
And a video!

And within 2 years... they found their way to a charity shop. For all I know, they may still be there!

Squishy :~ I considered 'Afterglow' {having already got 'Fumbling..', 'Surfacing', 'Solace', 'Mirrorball' & 'Remixed'}, but I didn't like the look of the reviews and gave it a miss. Now I'm very glad I did ~ thank you for wasting your money so I didn't have to! ;)

Sarah :~

On Saturday 17th, at 8:00pm {UK time}, BBC Radio 2 will be broadcasting an hour-long Pink Floyd interview with Dave, Roger, Nick, and Richard.
You SHOULD {I hope!} be able to hear it here :~
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/
either at the time of the broadcast or afterwards.
I'm not sure what time that will be in the US, but I think you are about 5 hours behind the UK.

And here's a bit more from them :~

Edit :~

I read it in the new Radio Times this afternoon, and who was the first person I thought of to be sure to tell... ?! :)

I've never regretted any of my album purchases. Even if I didn't like the music that much I could always just look at the cover as a piece of art and read everything on it.
My only regret nowadays is that I can't buy most new music on vinyl! CD's don't sound as good as vinyl to me plus they are uninteresting to look at! You also need a magnifying glass to read the fine print! I hate CD's!
Sorry, I'm ranting!

You stumped me Sarah, I can honestly not think of one that I at least got a little something out of. There might be a few but I'm sure I bought them for like $3 so I don't really regret that.

I give up.

Edit: I'm 36 now, I don't think my memory's all that good due to excess living throughout my 20's. I'll say.....oh crap, Europe - The Final Countdown. Argh, why do you bring up these memories that for years I've tried to bury but only raise their ugly head to retorture my heart and soul.

I know this has nothing to do with this post but I like cold sandwiches.

And I really hope your college application process is over soon for your sake.

Edit: Ah, too much fun. At times I wonder how I ever made it through them.

Jeez, where do I start.
Boston-Third Stage
I used to love Boston, but that album is just glossy pop product. Plus it pissed Me off that the original band wasn't on it. It's basically a Tom Scholtz solo album.
Metallica-St. Anger
After I heard that gawdawfulness, I swore I'd never waste My money on a new Metallica album again. Everybody says they sold out, everybody's right they did.
Judas Priest-Turbo
I love Priest but Priest+Synsthesizers=ARGH NOOOOO!
The Rolling Stones
Voodoo Lounge
Bridges To Babylon
A Bigger Bang
I'm a big time Stones fan, but it's been all downhill since Steel Wheels. I keep shelling out bucks and their albyms keep on sucking..URGH.
Ok, that's enough examples.
Great question Sarah

Although I'm mostly a rock/alternative type, I was smitten with Sarah McLachlan's voice back in the 90s and really enjoyed Fumbling Towards Ecstacy (a personal all time fave) and Surfacing, so I was really overly anxious when she released Afterglow a few years back. I rushed out, bought it, listened to it, and wanted to run it over with the lawn mower, I was so disappointed and I fear she'll never live up to those Fumbling days again as awesome as her voice is.
