I've suffered anemia off and on for years these are some things that should help you out.
Iron-rich foods include:
beans, including kidney, lima, navy, black, pinto, soy beans, and lentils
Beef liver
Poultry
Fish
Wheat germ
Oysters
Dried fruit
Iron-fortified cereals
Eggs
dried fruits, such as raisins, prunes, dates and apricots
Foods high in folic acid include:
Liver
Chicken giblets
Egg yolks
Enriched grain products (including certain breakfast cereals)
Leafy green vegetables
Bananas
Oranges
Peaches
Foods high in Vitamin B12 include:
Liver
Meat
Fish
Eggs
Milk and other dairy products
Avoid foods that interfere with the iron absorption. Examples of foods to avoid are: beer, candy bars, dairy products, ice cream, soft drinks, coffee and tea.
Avoid foods high in Oxalic acid from your diet. Oxalic acid interferes with iron absorption. Foods such as almonds, cashews, chocolate, kale, rhubarb, sorrel, spinach, Swiss chard and most nuts and beans are high in oxalic acid.

What did your doctor suggest? Are you now taking iron supplements? If you passed out, your iron must have been very low and I would think supplements are needed.
Sometimes the problem is that your body is not absorbing the iron you eat and supplements will be needed. Shellfish red meat and liver are the best sources of iron.
See below for a list of iron rich foods.

Wheaties is a really good one...I, too, have struggled with anemia for years...I have to take iron supplements...it really is the easiest....Organ meat, I know that sounds gross, is a really good source (liver, heart, gizzards). Raw spinach is good, tuna, egg yolk...you can google "iron rich foods" and find tons of info...
