You can dress up, go to job fairs and do resume drops, pop in unannounced, write to the CEO, etc. But when it comes down to it, don't all those sources ultimately direct you to the website and the job postings therein, thus pitting you against hundreds of applicants?

Applying online does show that you have some computer skills. IF you send in a snail mail letter, how are you showing what your computer skills are?

I would disagree. I have seen very few people have success getting in the door this way. Maybe its because I am in the deep south, but very rarely are you going to get a job here without initiating some personal contact with the company, either through a headhunter or recruiter (preferred here), or through networking.

jobfairs just waste time...emailing resumes can help...ive gotten jobs from the paper before..it depends what job youre after...that book is still good....never go unannounced unless the ad says but if they dont say hrs or give a phone # forget it...the job might be filled already..

It may seem that way, but no.

I would drop in unnanounced, go tot the job fairs, go to the place of business, ask for the hiring mgr. all dressed up, Those are probably the most effective ways to go about it.
