Like, when a girl is attracted to a guy, she looks at the guy when far away, but when she is within an arms length, her eyeball looks right past you and around you or they pretend to be interested by something to their left or right.
What can I tell from this?
Why would it be embarrassing for them? Its not like I'm going to laugh at her.

happens more then u think too
but when ur closer some girls get shy and look around

Shyness? They don't want the guy to know how much they like him? Just being coy? Each girl probably has a different reason. Why do guys look at you when far away, but when they are close they only look at your chest?

Hate to say it, but odds are they were just looking at something around you the whole time... perhaps the way they were walking?
From a distance, it's hard to see exactly what a person is looking at.

You can tell that the girl is shy. If she continues to make eye contact, she's probably more comfortable with herself.
Look her in the eyes to show you care.

maybe the girl feels intimidated. also, the girl may think
looking at you up close may make her look cheap

If she is afraid to be in a relationship or if she is unable to be in a relationship, females tend to look away!
Or if she is shy! She might be afriad that you wouldn't like her.

yah, but it something some girls do so u dont think they r stairing too much...if a girl gets cought in stairing at a boy she feels weird, it mostly cuz they are shy
